Hello Forum,
being quite a newbie to TV/Video/Sat, I recently installed a Genitach Satbox USB and installed the program ProgDVB supplied on the manufacturers CD.
Finding a lot of transponders with good signal level and quality for different satelites but not finding/showing any channel, I installed the latest driver from the Geniatech site and the lastest Non-Dot-Net-version of ProgDVB (4.81) but the behaviour still does not improve:
On: Channel List/Channel Search/Geniatech DVBdevice/Sat-Name
I watch the scanner finding different transponders with even level 100% an quality 100% but the channels list remains empty, the 6 entries above the channel always show 0.
I tried out different settings for DiSeqC (not knowing whot kind of sat system is installed here), different Sats (for example different Astra und Eurobird, suitable for Germany), tried out first creating a new "dynamic" channel list.. no way
I noticed that in the device list there are serveral "Prog Media Client" entries are not started. I guess I only should start them if I wanted my PC to act as a media server ?!?
'Till now, noone could help me making the system work. Any clues ??
regards
Stefan

First of all, you HAVE to know, what satellite(s) you're getting from your dish, else no way for any success.
So, did you ever test your dish set with a receiver?
Is it adjusted already?
Anyway, is it your dish? If not, ask the owner for details.
Regarding LNB/DiSEqC settings, you have to tell the (technical) truth to the system, to get ProgDVB working.
If an LNB heads towards a satellite position, that's exactly the one, that has to be set, to find the transponders and stations. Also the LNB parameters, like polarisation mthod, band(s) and LOF(s) have to be correct.
If more than one LNB / position is available, also the switching method and LNB coordination have to be set properly.
There's no auto detection for posiions, that could help you if the dish pointed to the moon instead of a defined and known satellite position...
BTW, without receiving a good signal, like with LNB cable disconnected, your level and quality reradings MUST drop to (almost) zero, else the card driver does not work poperly.
The media clients are meant for use without a card, to receive streams through another machine with a card in it. You don't need those.
And you would start a server on a machine with a card, to feed a client on another without.
And nothing but that.

Hi Juergen,
thanks for answering so quickly - though your answer arises a lot of new questions I might not completely be able to answer
The switching device on the roof is a "ASCI Multischalter KMS 508N" with
4 inputs:
Sat A hor 0 kHz, Sat A ver 0 kHz, Sat B hor 22 kHz, Sat B ver 22 kHz and a terrestrial input
8 similar outputs: Out1,..Out8.
On the label of the Multischalter I could't find any hints on if and what kind of DiSeCq is connected or connectable
All inputs and all outputs are connected with cables running somewhere (not only terminated). This house has a max of 5 spots with an antenna signal outlet, so I guess three of the outlets a double connected.
The Multischalter looks quite like
http://www.sat-gross.de/pd-1275159806.h ... ategoryID=
but is not exactly the same. I asked the company who installed the sat dish , they were sure, it has to be ASTRA 19,2° Sat.
Still I try all kinds off settings with always a lot of 100% quality transponders but not a single channel shown
I'm sorry, but I don't have any sat receiver to connect to the antenna jack to get further information.
I tested disconnecting the Satbox from the antenna jack and indeed there is no transponder found with any level or quality.
Searching the net, I could not find any information about that Multischalter
regards
Stefan

With that multiswitch alone, things are very limited.
Try to look to the dish, if it has one LNB with four cables on it, or two LNBs with two cables each.
First situation would mean, Astra only, but standard settings and full access to all of that bird system.
If so, don't add a switch in LNB settings, just set DiSEqC to none and set one LNB with properties adjusted to Astra 19.2°E, all details to default.
Second situation would surely mean, only LowBand of Astra and Hotbird, position switched by 22kHz.
This was normal in analog ages, but still allows access to parts of the digital transmissions.
LOF 1 used only, may either be 9750 MHz or 10000MHz (on a terribly old LNB), seperately for each LNB.
Set switch value to LOF1 + 2150 MHz, to get as much as possible, by extending the LowBand to the maximum.
If so, set a DiSEqC 1.0 switch, change it's properties to '2 ports switch by 22kHz', set the first LNB to Astra, second to Hotbird. If no success at all, set LNBs the other way around.
Best would be to ask another user or the owner of the dish set, if you still don't succeed on your own, perhaps some wird special settings are necessary.
Both cases, no DiSEqC at all.
22kHz band switching, if used, is NOT visible in DiSEqC settings, as it manages the LOF switching thewn, as part of one / each universal LNB.
But if 22kHz is used for position switching, you would always use LOF1 only, add a 22kHz position switch as mentioned above.
Once more, LNB / DiSEqC settings must be a true image of the existing hardware setup. This is important, as DVB tuners tehnically don't get any information on what's coming down the roof, you have to teach them the truth...
