Changing Channel over Client-Server Problem

#1
"big Thanks for this great wonderful DVB Player over the world"

and first of all i wanna say i am sure this problem may be asked before but i did not find any using Search exactly about this issue and i mixed up instead.
please ProgDVB help me.
................................................

in brief :

1- both 4.56.1 the picture is clear and Normal but can not change channel.

2- both 5.14.7 the picture on Vista (Client) is not clear & slow mation but can change channels.

.................................................

more explain :

there is two PC.
1st Windows Server 2003 PC with Nvidia Geforce 5200.

2nd Windows Vista Ultimate Service Pack 1 on Laptop with ATI Mobility X1400.

DVB card is Skystar 2 TV PCI installed inside of PC Server 2003.

the progDVB version is : 4.56.1 with Elecard codec install companion and the lateset 5.14.7 version without it.

the problem is can not change channel on client (Vista Ultimate SP1) correctly...sometime it will change sometime not change.

all the Firewall is closed now.

the same version of ProgDVB is installed on both of PC and after scanning channels on server the channel data folder copy on client too.

whenever I install 4.56.1 on both of the them clear picture is OK but i can not change channel on the laptop over Wi-Fi or LAN. (sometime changing successful and sometime not i do not know why)

and whenever i uninstall this version and install 5.14.7 on both of them without any Elecard Codec companion by ProgDVB after copying channels data folder on client too i can change channels successfully but the problem is the picture on the Vista SP1 is not clear (it is yellow and very slow mation) while by this version on server 2003 everything is OK.

I wanna say .Net Framework 3.0 installed on both of them with latest Graphic card Drivers installed and updated.

after install i RUN register.bat file in the Filters folder to make certain everything is OK but now i am so unhappy and mixed up lack of using great ProgDVB.

please please please help me what should i do to solve those kind of problem?

why progDVB developers team does not install Elecard Codec by this new 5 versions so users did not have any problem like this due to incorrect codecs or something else?

I hope you help me what is the wrong ?

I wanna take a clear picture on Vista SP1 running ProgDVB 5.14.7 while changing without any problem like that clicking over TV name but nothing happened on 4.56.1

I will sell DVB card if this problem does not solve by ProgDVB team. :(
I need change the channels over Wi-Fi

at the moment I use 4.56.1 and during the day watching just 1 channel over wi-fi or LAN so i feel i am in a prison.

Perhaps try a more modern 4.x version, to compare.
You can have different versions installed into different folders.

Do you really need picture on the server? Else think about switching off the decoding there.

Your picture problems on the Vista client may be hardware / driver or DirectX or codec related. Update SS2 and VGA drivers and DirectX, then try some different codec.

Elecard codec is commercial software. ProgDVB can only provide a free demo, the manufacturers allow to be spread.
There are free codecs around, like ffdshow, and you may also play around with some from your original DVB software or DVD player software or alike.
ProgDVB is not Open Source, that's why it can't come with an Open Source codec inside, due to GPL limitations. So the user has to take care of that issue.

Anyway, codecs also have their pros and cons each, also depending on some possible hardware support from the user's VGA card.

As all computers are different, and as the standard version of ProgDVB is for free, but others are not, there's no universal solution.

BTW, there is a possible complete different solution for server channel changing, use remote desktop software like VNC.It won't be a good idea, to try to view the server's picture this way (better disable decoding there), so the client software will still be necessary. But you could change channels on the server directly, via remote desktop.
Perhaps add another user account to the server, that does not have more rights than necessary, to control ProgDVB.

all these Days that i was not here i was testing and trying all Modern 4.x and compare but...nothing.

also whenever i do not choose MPEG Codec in Installation Wizard of 4.x....
after running ProgDVB it shows me an error that it must close and does not open but whenever i keep everything Default in Installtion Wizard....it received Picture from Server but the big problem appears (can not change channle from client)

anyway this way you suggest does not work at least for me on trying same server/client with these versions of ProgDVB :

4.48.2 & 4.56 & 4.56.1 & 4.56.2 & 4.79.7 & 4.82.4 & 4.87 & 4.87.6 & 4.88.2 latest 4.90.7 (4.x Versions) and 5.09.1 & 5.11.6 & 5.14.2 & 5.14.7 & Latest 5.14.8.

Believe me I tried all of them one by one and it takes me a lot of time installing and uninstalling also defining Diseqc on Hotbird/Turksat/Nilesat/Intelsat 902.
look at me how it is important to me to make it possible using 4.x while changing Channel on Vista easily without any problem.

Juergen wrote:Do you really need picture on the server? Else think about switching off the decoding there.
No.I do not Need picture on Server and if it works (I hope) could you please tell me how to disable or switch decoding off there?
in the Option menu or Audi/Video i did not find any like this to disable or something else.
please help me I hope this works.

Juergen wrote: Your picture problems on the Vista client may be hardware / driver or DirectX or codec related. Update SS2 and VGA drivers and DirectX, then try some different codec.
I am agree I think this is correct but i am mixed up....if there is any problem by Graphic Driver so why the Picture is Clear in 4.56.1 as well as when i ProgDVB installation wizard recommend install codecs itself in 4.56.1 in Vista that has problem with showing clear picture??!!!

I am completely Mixed up how is it possible all picture shown on Vista is OK by 4.56.1 but not OK by other newer than 4.56 & so on...?!!!!

anyway I think the problem is due to Codecs more than Drivers.
i am sure it is latest ATI radeon X1400 Mobility Drivers (VGA) installed on Vista also Latest DirectX 9.0 and DirectX 10 build in Vista SP1.

Juergen wrote: Elecard codec is commercial software. ProgDVB can only provide a free demo, the manufacturers allow to be spread.
There are free codecs around, like ....
OK. i Understand ProgDVB.
about other codecs anyway i unregister Elecard.bat in progdvb filters and install FFDshow and Cyberlink and Nvidia Codecs too but not any difference.
Progdvb accept and use that codecs but still does not show picture clearly.
in this incorrect way Elecard MPEG2 gives better picture than them.

Juergen wrote: As all computers are different,.... there's no universal solution.
yes I am an IT specialist in Iran so i understand you clearly...so this is reason that i am here hope you help if you can.

Juergen wrote: there is a possible complete different solution for server channel changing, use remote desktop software like.....
Yes now i prefer using older 4.x version of Progdvb with good clear picture than .Net Farmeworked 5.x versions using Remote Desktop change channel on server and close it watching on Client over Wi-Fi.
it is better than feeling myself in the Prison watch just 1 channel.

Juergen wrote: Perhaps add another user account to the server, that does not have more rights than necessary, to control ProgDVB.
really?
in fact there is same Account User name (Administrators Permission) with same password on Server 2003 Domain and Vista (Client) and i thought it is better that they are be the same changing channel than different User/Pass on Server/Client.

anyway if it is possible please tell me how to disable coding on server i hope it solve the problem.

Thanks for reading my long Post. :)
I must talk in brief i promise.

No problem in reading long postings here, as I am also not always capable to press complex issues into two or three lines :)

Anyway, to disable mpeg2 decoding, open
File --> Timeshift buffer status
or just click the little clock symbol below the video frame.

This is the way for all old versions I am using, but should not be all to different on the lates ones (which I hope to find the time to test, one day...).
As I am still on Win98SE as default, I would have to reboot, to look into 5.x. But my machine is waiting for timer events...

Thank you dear friend for your nice support.
i wanna tell Thanks again because the way you suggest to disable MPEG2 Decoding on Server solved the problem (not completely) but it is better than before.
about 3 times unsuccessful changing channel bu disabling MPEG2 decoding vs 40 times unsuccessful changing channel from client while server shows picture too.

also I referred again to firewalls both on Server 2003 SP2 and Vista Ultimate SP1.

I checked all the options off for DVB Technisat Skystar2 PCI Network Card on firewalls to keep it alone and does not check that special Network card on my LAN at all and also disable MPEG2 decoding there.

so I can change channels from Client (Vista Ultimate) while picture on server is off.

anyway i will be patient to release more new Versions of ProgDVB to solve these problems completely.

and just a question if you had enough time please reply : :D
problem for changing channel has solved but why codecs (Nvidia & Cyberlink & FFDshow & Elecard) that I installed myself does not work on Vista while Elecard Codec register by ProgDVB works correctly on Vista ?

I understand ProgDVB using codecs while installing in new versions but i am in wonder why i can not use them installed by myself?
(Latest Elecard codec downloaded from official website and others too)
it is wonderfull....Older Elecard Codec shows by the same VGA Card and Drivers .

because I think using new ProgDVB 5.x will solve this problem completely but codecs does not work there (it is the last problem)

Sorry, can't help on Vista isssues, as I don't have (nor want) it here. One of the main reasons, quite a lot of my fine working hardware would not be of any more use there...

Vista is still be told to have a multitude of (not just) multimedia issues, even after SP1. Specially regarding codecs...

Codec manufacturers seem to also still be in trouble. This for, or even for marketing reasons, some only work on 32bit, others only on 64bit versions

Networking may also still be performing suboptimal there, but at least HDD performance is told to be improved a bit now...

Now, as Windoze eXPerimental is almost ready with SP3, they had to force new customers, to go for just another strange ride into the twilight zone...

Win98SE, 2000SP4, XP Pro SP3 are working pretty good here, on both of my machines. Did not even have to buy XP (and I surely won't have done), as the licenses came with that 2nd hand machines and had never been used before.

Had the chance / pain to play around with the Vista Enterprise plague elsewhere. Did cost me almost an hour alone, to get rid of most of the childish colourful and greedy GUI 'improvements'. With what's required to show just the default desktop, you can decode MPEG4 HD elsewhere...
Hiding away even more important system controls, phoning home every now and then, declaring tons of fine hardware as to weak / obsolete / outdated / not trustworthy, why on earth should I waste away my money for that crappy u-no-wat...

I would really like to have a ProgDVB for Linux, as long as it would support the HW benefits of my SS1 in full (again), like VDR does (even better)

From my personal point of view, Windoze has gone right over the top now, the only way ahead is down. And recently Ugly Bill has retired anyway...

Sorry for being OT, but sometimes things just have to be told...

Dear Juergen....
Thanks a lot for this your nice support and help peoples solve their problems.
if i were administrator i would pay you....

about the problem discussed here i wanna say for now i am using Vista Ultimate still and the Problem using it (yellow picture in Vista) by changing the video renderer problem has solved.

but changing channel still remain.
nowadays i am using ProgDVB 4.56.2 both on server and client (I tried latest versions too) and changing the channels using a remote Desktop Application and now i can watch TV Channels without any problem on Vista Ultimate SP1.

but the littele issue that i am not so happy completely is the bug (all version of ProgDVB) after changing channels over Remote Desktop about 3 or 4 times the 5th channel changed the Client picture going to freeze and i must close ProgDVB client and reopen it again to reach clear picture of 5th Channel changed and so on...

maybe i decide to buy an External USB DVB connected to my Laptop and watch channels straight connection not over Wi-Fi or LAN.

and it is so wonderful for me too that we saw a new version of ProgDVB worked on Linux released on ProgDVB Official website.

thank you.
