Subtitles won't switch off?

Just downloaded ProgDVB 6.31.03 Standard, installed and accepted all default settings and ran a channel scan (Astra 28.2E).
Problem:
I'm getting subtitles shown by default on all channels that are transmitting them, and I can't switch them off.
More info:
I've tried the subtitles toolbar button, Service->Subtitles and right-click->Subtitles->Disabled. None of these make any difference.
Note that the toolbar button is highlighted (indicating subtitles are on) and the relevant options in the menus are ticked to indicate English subtitles, so it's not a case that the subtitles are in the video stream or anything like that.
If I edit the channel and remove the subtitles (Page 888 and PID), I no longer get subtitles on that channel, so I have a workaround, but obviously it's not ideal.
Interestingly, when I tune to a channel that I have edited in this way, the subtitles button is disabled (greyed) *and* selected (highlighted). The Service menu still has Subtitles selected and the context menu is greyed but hovering on it pops out a submenu with a separator line and "Disabled" (which is not checked).
Switching skins appears to have no effect.
Feels like purely a UI issue to me, so I won't post system details unless you think that might help diagnose the issue.
Cheers.
