ProgDVB crash on exit with Geniastar

Hi,

I know that I have already posted in another thread aboput this problem, but as it was tacked on the end of someone else's post I fear that it might have been overlooked.

I have ProgDVB Elecard edition 4.80.4 and a Geniatech Digistar DVB-S

I have two problems.

1 - When I quit ProgDVB the programme crashes (details below).
2 - If I restart the Geniatech, it stays locked in V or H (depends what it was in when it crashed).

Problem 2 can be solved by stopping/restarting the card in the device manager - but obvioulsy this is not an ideal situation. It would be better to solve problem 1.

If I go into the progDVB device list device list and try to stop the Geniatech there, I get the same crash.

As it stands the software and the card are practically unusable - and impossible to schedule recordings unless I eave ProgDVB running all the time.

Since I am a paying customer, maybe I will get an answer this time :?:

Here are the details of the crash.
Windows XP Pro SP2, French. clean install, minimal codecs installed (no packs, just what Gordian Knot installs, latest Xvid)
ProgDVB Elecard edition 4.80.4
Geniatech Digistar DVB-S,
Conexant BDA driver says it is 4.0.107.0 from 2004, but BDAtun is 4.108.0 in the details.

I can't copy the full error report (XP won't let me copy from the window),
Here's the start

If I try to run the Visual Studio 2005 debugger, I can only get assembler, no symbols being available.

If I don't go into the debugger, and refuse the Microsoft error report I then get

msdvbnp.ax is a Microsoft DirectShow component, not delivered with ProgDVB.
Update DirectX, including all the latest patches, go use DxDiag.

Look for DVB related patches from MS.

Of course this can also be a driver issue, anything similar, but obviously not directly ProgDVB related.

Hi Jurgen, thanks for the reply.
My DirectX is totally up to date. Overall version is 4.09.0000.0904.

msdvbnp.ax is 6.05.2600.2180 English, commercial release.

I have looked for DVB-related patches from MS (having already read the forum), the only one remotely relevant is KB896626 which I have already applied. Can you be more specific ?

I have also contacted Geniastar, but I am doubtful about receiving a reply. Since they supply ProgDVB as the necessary software for using their card, and since there do not seem to be any other products which support the Geniastar card, I consider that you have a joint responsability to provide a working combination.

If you require, I can lend you a Geniastar card so that you can fix the problem.

I know that I am not alone in having this problem. A friend in the UK bought the same card and is having exactly the same issue with ProgDVB.

For your further information, MyTheatre can be configured to recognise the Geniastar card as a generic Conexant BDA Tuner. However polarity switching does not work; but more importantly MyTheatre does not crash on exit. One can only assume that MyTheatre deals with the device (and driver) in a more correct manner hence avoiding the crash.

The Geniastar has recently come on the market in France and Germany at a very interesting price and claiming to be the first card to receive HD. This is creating quite a bit of interest. If ProgDVB does not work with it, sales will never take off. If ProgDVB does work with it, then you could hope for increased sales of the full version of ProgDVB. It is therefore in your greatest interest to address and solve this problem.

Looking forward to a speedy and helpful reply.[/u]

Well, this was what I meant.

...not me in person, that's Prog's business, alone and only.

...same, sorry.
From my opinion, Prog should already have such a device, due to his agreements with the maker or vendor, but I don't really know.

Prog, do you read this?

Let's hope for the best.
I'm not a programmer, nor in any way involved in the commercial aspects.
Just a volunteer, moderating here for free for years, same as SiLencer.

Thanks Juergen - as you say let's hope that Prog is reading this...

Sorry if I mistook you for the developper by the way
Cheers
