Decent DVB-S card with CI

Hello,

My first post here, so be gentle.

I am looking for a decent card with a CI slot. I am in Africa and want to be able to get Mulitchoice DSTV onto my PC for doing all the usual things. DSTV in Africa is using IrdetoII i believe so using a CAM to access the service with a real paid up card should work....i think.

Can anyone recommend a DECENT card for the job. I have read about a LOT of problems with TwinHan so i am a little shy of using TwinHan. Is there anything else out there right now ?

Thanks

JD

Hi,
It seems you won't get much help here on a subject as this - it is clear from the posts that ProgDVB does not support CI or encrypted services, neither does it want to go there!

I think you need to be firstly aware that encrypted services are VERY HIGH END!!!!!! A tiny fraction ONLY of the TV Sat market (pci especially)- most people want freeview, so-called FTA. Many set top boxes have single and dual card slots though!! It would seem that is by far the normal way to go.

I am in New Zealand - I have a Skystar 1 CI, these cards are pretty rare and sort after now, due to their hardware mpeg encoder.

Also I have Skystar HD CI. Both of these Technisat cards work seemlessly with the OEM software.

If I were you I would not spend even one second trying to get free or any aftermarket program to do such a high end job.

This CI level is much more specialised - proprietory code and high level trade secrets probably need to be sworn to secrecy and have signed contracts (in blood!! :-)) etc - Otherwise every hacker in the business will be selling skycards/ irdeto/ etc etc all around the world in 5 minutes flat!! Half the hackers are already working the area - without more leaks!

Personally I would advise you to stick to Technisat, possibly also their related suppliers like Technotrend. Stay away from China and Taiwan, India! Stick with good hardware products and VERY SOLID software - which has good support. These people don't make mistakes often!! It appears the SS HD doesn't now work with Windows 2000 but this is a minor hickup - easily surmounted by changing OS to XP.

I watch SBS Australia and Central 7 with Irdeto card on both my SS cards - with the OEM software drivers the cards came with - they work seemless and perfect.

cheers Ken

Well, I suppose, quite a lot of people would like to help you on finding a suitable solution, BUT obviously there aren't to many around, that have any experience with that provider.

However, normally any CI equipped tuner should work with it's original software, original subscriber card and suitable CAM.
Use of 3rd party software comes after this, not before.
And CI support of a device may differ from one to the other software.

This for, it would not make sense, to push you to go for any hardware, without having tested exactly this on your provider.
