Hi all

I am using progdvb since .... a while and wanted to upgrade the version and so I did yesterday. I installed progdvb 5.14 and now I get an error-message when I start the program:

h.264/AVC und DVB-S2 supported only in Pro version of progDVB

I cannot even watch the regional programs. Is ProgDVB not free anymore - or did I do something wrong?

regards
aya

Sorry I don't understand! Did I use a wrong version or some wrong codecs?

ProgDVB free version is NOT made for h.264/AVC or DVB-S2, both are supported by the Pro versions only.
Like mentioned on the download pages:
You can use all base functions of ProgDVB free of charge without restrictions in ProgDVB Standart edition. Some additional functions, such as "Picture in a picture"(only in 5.x), AVC,H.264,AAC and DVB-S2 support, work with several audio streams and some other, are available in ProgDVB Professional only.
This is his personal descision. as author and programmer of ProgDVB.
Like it or not... .

thank you a lot for your answer.

And as you might have seen - I do not really understand much about dvb-t.

How do I change this mode? Or does it depend on the tv-card?

regards

Obviously...

DVB-T means terrestrial.
DVB-S and DVB-S2 mean satellite.
DVB-C is cable.

So, what are you on, terrestrial antenna or satellite dish, or digital cable?
What tuner do you use?

h.264 is MPEG4 based, normal digital TV uses MPEG2 transmissions. Each requires a suitable codec, and the software used has to identify and deliver the adequate streams.
Similar goes for audio, normally it's MPEG1 Layer2, but it may also be in AC3, AAC or similar.

DVB-S2 uses a special modulation, that is not compatible with normal DVB-S tuners. But if you have a DVB-S2 tuner, same as above, the DVB software also has to support DVB-S2 modulation, to be able to tune to such transponders.

That's where the free versions of ProgDVB are limited.

In most cases, DVB-S2 transponders carry h.264 coded signals these days.

HDTV can be done in any of those ways, but due to bandwidth costs, it will be in h.264 in most cases, and it will also use improved modulation like DVB-S2, if possible.

A DVB-T2 standard does not exist yet, but it may come one day, supposingly starting in Norway first, and it will require new tuners then. At least...

Improved modulation is not yet defined for cable. 256-QAM gives enough bit rate versus bandwidth for now.

However, this is not the place for lessons on DVB basics.
Try wikipedia, for example.
Tons of good pages to read, on almost every aspect.

THANKS A LOT

Hello

Thanks a lot for your answer - I guess it depends on the dvb-s and ~s2 fact, as to I have only dvb-s

I switched back to the version 4.xx there everything work perfectly.

But I'd have another question - I saw in your profile you are a german-man *gg

Da könnten wir uns eventuell auch auf Deutsch unterhalten??

There is another Issue with the SF and SF2 - may I ask you here at this place in this thread about how to receive this programs?

kind regards
aya

The Swiss stations are crypted, that's why we can't discuss those here.
And if I remember well, they were changing cards recently, so the usual tricks won't work anymore. But I may be wrong. For reasons not to be mentioned, I am not interfering with decryption issues these days...

We have to stay in English (or russian  ) here.

You will find a nice German language section at dvbn.happysat.org
And that's also the place to find the best plugin sections (in English).

tons of thanks
