AVerMedia A827 DVB-T picture problems

Hi,
I have the mentioned USB card. I'm running it on two Laptops 1 IBM T40 (single core Pentium M, intel southbrige etc) and one Samsung P400 (Dual Core Ati GRaphics/Southbridge etc).
On the first one the AverMEdia drivers an Programm runs fine and on the Samsung the picture is only in the upper quarter of the screen the sound is hacking....SO it doesn't work as it should for an dvb-t receiver

Since the original progr. does not allow mods in terms of audio(video codecs i installed ProgDVB. Launching it was ok, i had to do a manual programm search and find all the channels signal strenght is 100% quality about 70% so no problem. I managed to get the audio right by setting directly the Realtek audio codec but at the video codec settings nothing changes if i change from WM7 to WM9 or the other to options. I always only get the first quarter of the picture and that is trembling all the time meaning its not even stable. I do not now how to install other mpeg/video renderers who can help me and will that change anything?
I have the latest ATI Catalyst drivers...
System is XP but I had tried it with Vista Ultimate not having been able to see anydifference in the video stream...
Thanks in advance
BEst regards
Andreas

First of all, make sure, other multimedia applications are working fine, like your DVD player software and other media players.
Then keep in mind, most codecs have internal settings, that may be very important to look after.

CHeers Jürgen fpr your answer.
My other multimedia apps work fine, and I tried any setting i could get my fingers on, the problem remains, it just gets a bit better or a bit worse depending on the settings.
I've contacted support of the producer who told me that it could be a general problem with ati chipsets but they where not sure and asked me to send them all the details so I'm awaiting that answer also.
Neverthelles I couldn't do what was suggested in some other parts of the thing called internet that is to change the overlay settings of the ATI graphics driver since i don't find the appropriate menu. Has anybody else done a change in that direction and if so where do I do that?

What video codec did you select in ProgDVB?
BTW, it may be better, to chose audio and video codecs, that belong together.
What codecs would Windows Media Player use for MPEG2 file playback?
For their original retail software bundles, ATI frequently use some Cyberlink codecs, that may as well get some hardware support from the ATI VGA.

I tried all that worked!

I did that but that didn't give any improvement!

In one that i had recorder (with the manufacturers prog)it used Elecard MPEG-2 Video Decoder and Morgan Stream Switcher for Audio

Didn't get any support from them.
The manufacturer answered me and told me that thei are going to release a beta Driver which allegedly works, haven'T seen it yet.
I'll keep up to date if there is any interesser in the matter!

Of course we are always interested in results, good or bad.
However, overlay resizing trouble makes me wonder these days, as this should normally work fine for more than a decade now, and for me it always did.
Started with a Matrox Millenium PCI, then went for an ATI RagePro Turbo II, changed to a Radeon 7200 / VE, then i845 integrated Intel Extreme Graphics, and now it's a Radeon 9250 here. From late Win95 to XP.

REsults are bad but interesting.
The promised beta was just a beta of the AverTV software.
What changed is:
I don'T see just part of the image but the whole picture but i only get one frame every 2 seconds or so and the sound is cracky an crappy!
Reinstalled the old shipped ATI Video and Southbridge drivers but have had no luck.
I think i'll just forget about DVB-T viewieng in that combination and stay with the intel based laptop or
1) Buy a new laptop
2) Buy a new USB TV Stick (any suggestions on that (FM+Analog/digitalTV, USB pref. with remote control?))

Can't give any advise on buying such a device, sorry.
However, meanwhile you may try to find out, if that USB port really works as USB2, for example with an external HDD and copying a really big file, stop watch and calculator. Anything below 2 Mbytes per second --> USB 1.x, perhaps a controller driver problem.
BTW, how much RAM do you have? Swap file use for DVB won't really help...
Does your VGA use shared / 'turbo' memory? This gives quite some extra bus load...
Also possible, the laptop has some power (management), thermal or similar problems, resulting in enormously reduced CPU speed.
There are tons of chances for badly performing systems...

The speed of the USB i'll check, haven't done that yet!
The vga card uses shared memory up too 256MB. I have 2 GB installed so that shouldn't be the bottleneck, and as stated the stick works fine on an IBT T40 with 768MB of RAm and an PIII at 700 MHz!
I maybe keep on trying if i find some time and have the drive!

So after I installed the new Avermedia Drivers dating 11/08/08 the Stick works fine with the Avermedia software and I tried ProgDVB which in VErsion 4.91.8 works. The 5.x version does not work but I'll settle for the other one that works.
The only thing i realised is that the 4.x version cannot automaticaly scan for channels, the 5.x version cna automaticaly scan.
So long
