Also depends on what source you are trying to get HD from.

You can't tune to DVB-S2 transponder without a DVB-S2 compatible tuner.

Some HD content may have content protection, that limits HD resolution access to digital video interfaces like HDMI. So perhaps HD would only be available over a HDMI or DVI-D attached screen, but 15 pin VGA would only carry SD or even stay blank.

And for h.264, with a 2.4 GHz core, you may have to either activate some hardware support from the graphics card or force use of both cores. If application and codec / renderer allow to...

BTW, the screen resolution may be good for 'HD ready' style (720 lines), but not for full HD resolution (1080 lines), as it has 768 lines available, as you told. So 1080 would have to get downscaled.
