Problem of sound direction with 5.1 configuration

I use ProgDvb and I appreciate this program.
Only I meet a problem about sound direction with ProgDVb test 6.0.
I have not this problem with ProgDvb 5.15.

In fact I would like always to use my speaker sytem, 5.1 sound.
With ProgDvb 5.15 it is ok for watching tv in live and watching a record.
With ProgDvb test 6.0 it is ok only for watching a record, not ok for watching tv in live.

With ProgDvb test 6.0 I tried audio basic settings without success :
- audio renderer : realtek HD audio output
- audio renderer for AC3 : realtek HD audio output
- mpeg : elecard audio decoder
- ac3 : elecard audio decoder

Is there an audio advanced setting to correct my problem ?
In fact my problem is that for watching tv in ProgDvb test 6.0,
I find the sound of my sound card on the sample stereo plug,
and not on the three 5.1 plugs.

My configuration is :
- OS : Windows XP SP3
- Audio driver : Realtek 5.10.0.5657
- Hard : Realtek HD Audio card, integrated into MSI MB (K9VGM-V)
Hauppauge Sat Card (WinTv-HVR 3000)
- Tests : 5.1 Speakers OK with Sound Manager (Windows + Realtek).

Thank you

Jacki

Elecard not support AC3. Try use AC3filter.

AC3 Filter install

Thank you to Prog for this quick answer.

I am going in this way and search for install of AC3 Filter.
Is there a tuto or a post relating this topic ?

In a first time, about Filters, I notice this in my installs of ProgDvb :
- for ProgDvb 5.15, I have 2 repertories : Graph Filters & Filters
- for ProgDvb 6.0, I have only 1 repertory : Filters
I continue my search.

Test AC3 about sound on 5.1 sound sytem in ProgDvb 6.0

I remenber that my goal was to use my speaker system, 5.1 sound,
with ProgDvb test 6.0 for watching tv in live.

Firstly, I tried initial audio basic settings without success :
- audio renderer : realtek HD audio output
- audio renderer for AC3 : realtek HD audio output
- mpeg : elecard audio decoder
- ac3 : elecard audio decoder

Secondly, after AC3 Filter install (copy AC3 files into FILTERS repository),
I tested new settings :
- audio renderer : realtek HD audio output
- audio renderer for AC3 : realtek HD audio output
- mpeg : AC3Filter
- ac3 : AC3Filter

For watching tv in live, I have always no sound on my 5.1 sound system :
sound is only on my sample stereo plug.
I try to search an other solution...

Thank you for your help.

You must install AC3Filter (www.ac3filter.net)

I am not familiar of codec tupic.
My understanding is this.

For usage of AC3Filter in ProgDvb 6.0 it is sample, it is sufficient to do :
- download the .exe file (ac3filter_1_51a.exe)
- install by lauching the .exe file
- reboot, for effect

In effect, after in the ProgDvb application,
I found well the choice AC3FILTER for audio settings.

I applied this sample method for installation of AC3Filer.
But still this operation does not correct my particular problem of 5.1 sound sytem : may be need of complementary settings ?

Thank you.

Quite often, AC3 does not carry 5.1 signals, but only normal stereo.
May not just depend on the station but also on the content transmitted.

So perhaps you should post more and precise details on the behaviour you're watching, including all relevant technical parameters, with example stations, position / bird, transponder...

Problem of sound direction

Ok, I must you give more precisions about my problem.
I discern better after your questions.
Now, may be we are going to discern together the real problem.

My sound card offers 2 possibilities of connexion :
- I want simply to oriente the sound on the set of 3 plugs where I have connected my sound system (a physical configuration with 5+1 speakers).
- I do not want to oriente the sound on the plug for 2 speakers (sample, stereo).

After my last investigations, I understand better the problem.

For me, ProgDvb 5.15 has a good behaviour that allows to manage well
the 2 possibilies of connections :
- if you have a sound sytem with 2 speakers, you must choice :
Realtek HD audio output as audio render & audio render AC3
- if you have a sound system with 5+1 speakers, you must choice :
Direct Sound : Realtek HD audio output as audio render & audio
render AC3

For me, ProgDVb 6.0 has not this good behaviour.
It seems, systematicly, to oriente towards the plug for 2 speakers.
independantly of the choice of parameters in audio settings : audio render & audio render AC3.
For me, in ProgDvb 6.0 the option Direct Sound : Realtek HD audio output has no good effect , because this option has the same effect that the other Realtek HD audio.

What is your opinion about these investigations ?

Thank you.

So what's the real difference you're observing, the other three audio channels staying silent? Or do the rear channels also get front signal?
On 5.15, what happened on 2 ch AC3 transmissions, compared to this?

Did you try to build a custom graph for your system, based on a file with AC3 in 5.1? Like a recording from the well working version?

How to use a 5+1 speakers sound system

Firstly, I mention that I didn't build a graph, for ProgDvb rel 5.15 or 6.0 test.
Here are my parameters of Direct Show for ProgDvb 5.15.
> Graph by xgr files.
TV Channel : Elecard
TV/AC3 : Elecard
TV h264/AVC : Elecard plugin + AC3 Filter
Radio : Elecard
> Audio settings :
DirectSound: Realtek HD audio output

About the Audio setting parameter :
1) the option DirectSound : Realtek HD audio ouput
permit me to use my 5+1 speakers sound system
connected to my sound card by a set of 3 plugs,
always, for each selected tv channel
(so whatever the sound quality) .
2) the other option, Realtek HD audio ouput ,
permit me to use a 2 speakers sound system
connected to my sound card by 1 other plug,
always, for each selected tv channel
(so whatever the sound quality) .

For me in ProgDvb 5.15 this audio parameter acts simply like a switch :
to activate either a sound system (set 3 plugs) or the other (other 1 plug).
If I have connected 2 sound systems : only one sound system is actived,
the other, unactif, stay silent.

Now I give you my constats and interpretations about ProgDvb 6.0 test,
based on experience of ProgDvb 5.15

ProgDvb 6.0 goes with new audio parameters.
There are multiple choices for audio : audio + AC3 audio.
So in theory now I can connect and activate the 2 sound systems :
- a 5+1 speakers sound system
- a 2 speakers sound system

If I want activate the 2 sound systems, I want choice:
audio render = Realtek HD audio ouput
AC3 audio render = DirectSound : Realtek HD audio ouput

If I would like always to use only my 5+1 speakers, I would use :
audio render = DirectSound : Realtek HD audio ouput
AC3 audio render = DirectSound : Realtek HD audio ouput
But I constat this configuration is not operational.

In ProgDvb 6.0 test, in pratical, I can use only the 2 speakers sound system.
I can't use my 5+1 speakers sound system staying silent,
whatever my selections !

In ProgDvb 6.0 test, the option DirectSound : Realtek HD audio ouput don't act correctly, like for ProgDvb 5.15 (restriction ?).

Thank you to correct my interpretations, if false.

To answer to your ask, and to complete,
I proceeded to complentary tests under ProgDvb 5.15.
That release 5.15 give me satisfaction.
But certainly release 6.0 must offer others avantages.

Here is a description of complementary tests.

1) Test#1 : option = Direct Sound : Realtek Audio HD output

- Conditions for Test#1 :
* Direct Show
Graph by xgr file
TV channel : Elecard
TV/AC3 : Elecard + AC3Filter

* Audio Settings
Direct Sound : Realtek Audio HD output
- Test#1 :
> Audio Channel -> imusicTV pid=496, sid=772 (12460000 H 27500 3/4)
> AC3 Audio Channel -> DELUXE Music AC3 pid=259, sid=10100 (12246000 V 27500 3/4)
- Results of Test#1 :
* Sound directed on the set of 3 plugs for 5+1 speakers Sound System
* No sound on the plug for 2 speakers

1) Test#2 : option = Realtek Audio HD output
- Conditions for Test#2 :
* Direct Show
Graph by xgr file
TV channel : Elecard
TV/AC3 : Elecard + AC3Filter

* Audio Settings
Direct Sound : Realtek Audio HD output
- Test#2 :
> Audio Channel -> imusicTV pid=496, sid=772 (12460000 H 27500 3/4)
> AC3 Audio Channel -> DELUXE Music AC3 pid=259, sid=10100 (12246000 V 27500 3/4)
- Results of Test#2 :
* No sound on the set of 3 plugs for 5+1 speakers Sound System
* Sound directed on the plug for 2 speakers

Thank you

So let me assume, you do have two different sound systems in your machine, at least seen from the logical point of view?

ProgDVB is not supposed to notice, if your sound system's basic architecture changes between a two or multi channel set. At least you should reboot after changing, to allow DirectShow & Cie. to reinitiate.
May work, depending on many different factors, but not must.
And of course, some parts of ProgDVB 6 are rewritten completely. And it's still meant to be a test version...

So things like this may happen, but perhaps Prog can find out more, based on your feedback.

I can't help any further here, as I don't have a multi channel audio system. Vintage tube driven things only...

Success for a 5.1 sound under ProgDVb 6.01

With recent releases of ProgDVb I could use only a 2 speakers sound system.
Before with ProgDvb 5.15 I could use my 5+1 speakers sound system, always without difficulty.
Whatever the release, tests were always good under sound managers (windows & realtek).
Always I connected my cables between sound card and sound system with PC power OFF.

I constat that it is necessary to practice once the unplug & plug operation on line of audio cables, with PC power ON, to ensure correct configuration of sound under windows operating system, and applications such as ProgDvb.
Fortunately it is not necessary to repeat this operation after reboots.
After this constraint all is ok : tests under sound manager + sounds under operating system + sounds under ProgDvd application.

I agree to say that it is a constraint from the operating system, not from ProgDvb Application.
Now I am able to have a 5.1 rich sound on my sound system withr the last release ProgDvb 6.01.

Thank you very much for your help Juergen

You can try disable audio processor.
