ProgDVB 6.12.1: problem setting up Media Server

Hello community,

as I'm a fan of ProgDVB since release 4 (which I'm still using), I thought it might be a good idea to try out release 6. Getting it started for normal watching has not been any problem. But when it comes to use the media server, I had real difficulties. I installed it including media server (on server side) and selected media server client on client side. Server is on Vista SP1, client is on WinXP SP3.

I set up server as follows:
- Server mode: Current channel....
- Stream type: Transport stream / all streams
- Network: Protocol: unicast, correct network interface IP, port 10999, packet size 1400, passwords blank (I also tried it with passwords set)

Client setting:
protocol: Unicast
Network interface: any
Server IP: correct IP of the server box
Port 10999
Format: Transport stream
no passwords.

When I start a webbrowser on the client, the server indicated a data flow on the statistic page, so I assume the problem might be on the client side.

I would be very happy if someone of you experts could help me in this.

Besides: Is ProgDVB ready for Win7 ?? I'm currently testing it with several software....

Thanks a lot in advance !

Cheers,
Scotty

Do you have same version on client and server? Aslo you must receive channels on client over Channel list->Search ...

Hi Prog,

thanks for your reply.

Yes I do have the same version (6.12.1) . Unfortunately, the channel list is also not receivable.

What can I do ?

Thanks,
Scott

Firewall? Ports 10999 & 11000 must be opened on both sides (if need). ProgDVB add to firewall permition & etc.

Hi Akad,

for testing purposes I shut down the firewalls, so no blocking of ports. Besides: I could see traffic in my browser when I selected "http://<myserverIP>:10999", and the graphical statistics on the progdvb server showed traffic as well.

So apparently the server was sending out something which the client couldn't understand.

I am familiar with networking and firewalls etc, but I couldn't get this to work. So it must be only a small trick missing, I'm sure....

Thanks,
Scotty

On client:
Try to select right network interface (not any).
What happened, when you choose Channel list->Search?
Try to run progDVB with parameter /debug and show ProgDvb.log file.

I did, no change.

Unfortunately nothing at first.

Now that's strange: In debug mode, this software showed different behavior on my box. Now, it draws the channel list.

After that and a restart of both server and client, I managed to get a picture. So I now will save the whole folder to have a running config handy.

But: Switching channels is not possible on the client. When I do so, client and server will get dark. But switching channels on the server directly runs fine for both. So I have to use my remote software for that switching. It's OK.

Finally, as I got a running sytem now, I'd like to thank you Akad, and Prog for your help.

Cheers,
Scotty

BTW: I now have also a client running on Windows 7. Same switching behavior, BUT RUNNING !!!!!
