Stuck on 52% and 1%, PCI DVB-S stopped working

Hi,

I use Geniatech pci dvb-s card to view free to air channels. I used to have problems with it like freezing and crashing. However, that issue was solved by supplying power to another receiver connected to the same dual LNB.

However, recently, I stopped receiving signal. The Level is stuck on 52% and the quality, at 1%. I checked the connection and even tried the cable with a receiver. The receiver works with good signal. I uninstalled and reinstalled ProgDVB and all the original drivers and no luck. I even reinstalled my OS and the problem wasn't solved.

I suspect that this may have been caused by my power supply. I have a 450W power supply on an intel 945G chipset. I can feel static charges on the casing of my PC indicating there may be a problem with the power supply.

Before I try to buy a new power supply, I want to know if this is a good guess. Can this problem be caused by Power Supply?

Thank you,

Addisu

No. A 450 Watts power supply is suitable for a i945G machine.

BUT...

THIS IS URGENT:

Check your grounding / earthing system.
If not 100% secure on the subject, get help from a qualified electrician.

Three steps to go:
- the dish and pole are to be connected to outside earthing of the building properly, as else wind friction causes heavy static discharge, deadly for electronics and possibly dangerous for people, AND it gives an extra risk of lightning stroke getting lead into the building
- the LNB itself or the LNB cables' shields must be connected to the grounding of the internal electrical system (common ground rail), to prevent possible live voltage from being spread around in case of a bad device failure
- electrical wall outlet earthing must be checked. Computer power supplies with a three pin power socket may NEVER EVER be used on wall outlets without proper earthing or by a two pole cable anywhere in between.

Do this NOW, to protect life and property.

However, when connecting the LNB cable to the tuner, disconnect mains and any A/V connectors, then always make sure, to first discharge the outer shield of the F plug against the computer case ground, before inserting it. After attaching the LNB cable, reconnect the A/V connectors if exists(also shield / ground first). Reconnect mains power last.

If not being careful like this, it's easily possible, to fry the tuner input circuitry instantly...

I think you're right. I think my card has been fried up. There's of course no proper grounding either for the house or the dish.

I took my card to a friend's home where conditions are much better than mine and it didn't work there.
I guess I'll have to hire an electrician to sort out my issues before buying a new card. I think I'm going to go with the USB box option this time, though.

Thank you for the quick reply.
