ProgDVB unable to switch polarisation/band on Hauppauge card

Hello ProgDVB community!

I've been using ProgDVB Standard with my Hauppauge WinTV-Nova-S-Plus for years now and everything was perfectly working and I am very happy with this programm.

However, I recently bought a Hauppauge WinTV-Nova-HD-S2 for HD-TV and planned to use ProgDVB Pro with it. In Hauppauge's WinTV 2.5d, the card works as it should.

I installed the newest Version of ProgDVB Pro (v6.85.5, trial version at the moment of course) and started a search for channels, but a lot of them were missing, so I did another search and it turned out, ProgDVB would only find "H high"-channels, for example. After I closed ProgDVB and used WinTV to tune in a "H low"-channel, ProgDVB did only find those channels. It seems, that ProgDVB can't change neither the polarisation nor the band the card is receiving. (And also not the satellite).

I get the satellite signal from a Kathrein multiswitch, to which 2 LNBs are connected. They receive Astra 19,2° and Hotbird 13,0°.
The operating system is Windows 7 x64. I have tested both the 64 bit and 32 bit version of ProgDVB 6.85.5, which both have the same problem. I installed the newest Hauppauge driver, Version 2.126.28225.0 from 13.08.2010 according to Windows. On this PC, no TV-tuner or TV-programm has been installed before.

I would really like to use ProgDVB with my new card, because I'm very used to it and it is so much better than Hauppauge's WinTV, so any help would be appreciated.

And still problem after change Settings->Device options->Use tuner request?

Unfortunately yes. "Use Tuner Request" makes the whole thing even more worse: ProgDVB only finds channels on the transponder I tuned in with WinTV before and claims it would be the first transponder in the list (10729 V on Astra 19,2°).

Change symbolrade and demux settings on same page.

I tried all possible combinations of these options, but it didn't solve the problem. One thing which might be important (?): While ProgDVB should have only found H high-channels (that's what I tuned in), it found a few H low-channels starting with 11582 H on Astra, displaying the wrong transponder and polarisation. So this seems to be an exception to the rule, because the high-Band starts at 11700, right?

Anyway, this is all very confusing.

Do you try manual scanner dialog?

I don't know if that's what you mean, but the actual problem isn't to get the whole channel list, this can easily be done by scanning several times while opening H low/H high/V low/V high-channels in WinTV before. The problem is: If I have previously tuned in for example a H high-channel, channels from different bands/polarisations are not receiveable. ProgDVB shows 0% Quality and the window stays black. To view a channel, I have to tune the right polarisation/band in WinTV first. So I can't find the other channels because I don't get any signal at all.

Manual search does have the same problem. Even there I get some channels on the wrong Frequencies (see post above).

But thank you very much for your help!

Too many bad reports from Hauppuage :(
I will check again this type of drivers in near days. But not too many hauppuages in my collections. Not sure about WinTV-Nova-HD-S2

Do you have problems in ProgDVB 6.6x?

ProgDVB 6.61.01 works! With "Use Tuner Request", the programm gets a signal for all channels. The list of transponders doesn't include the new transponders on Astra 19,2° which are used since the the analogue satellite TV was switched off at the end of April here in Germany, but I've added some of them manually.

So it's great to see ProgDVB work and I will stay with this version, but I hope that whatever causes the newer version of ProgDVB not to work correctly can be fixed in future versions. I will test ProgDVB for some days to be sure that everything works and if it does, I'm certainly going to purchase it ;)

EDIT: It seems that maybe ProgDVB isn't responsible for all the trouble. After using WinTV the problem occurs again. WinTV starts a service "HauppaugeTVServer", but even after stopping it or rebooting the problem is still there. I suppose it only worked in the first place, because today I turned the PC on and only used ProgDVB until now. I have no idea what WinTV does to the card! As I said, I'm using the newest version, WinTV 2.5d, but this is really annoying.

Okay, forget about WinTV. I said that stopping "HauppaugeTVServer" or rebooting doesn't help, because WinTV has nothing to do with it! ProgDVB 6.61.01 works well, I was wrong when I said, it has the same problems as v6.85.5.

In v6.85.5 I was not able to get a signal for different polarisations/bands. But now all channels can be found in v6.61.01 and it almost works. I only realized that some channels also stayed black and were showing 0% Quality and assumed it was the same problem, but ProgDVB can receive them. It's just that when I come across a black channel, I go to Settings->Options and just hit OK and then the ProgDVB window refreshes and the signal/picture/sound is there.

So all channels work, it just would be nice if theres a way not have to refresh ProgDVB via the Options menu sometimes. So a new little problem but v6.61.01 works definately better than the latest version.

PS: And please forgive me that I sometimes jump to conclusions too hastily. I can see that it isn't easy when I suggest the problems could be caused by something and then something different shortly afterwards.

One idea. Please disable in last ProgDVB Settings->Device options->Use only one tuner at once.

That didn't help, but I'm going to use ProgDVB 6.61.1 anyway. Today I've tested several versions of ProgDVB and v6.7x and v6.8x all have the problem of not switching polarisation/bands on the WinTV-Nova-HD-S2. The oldest version I've tested was v6.65.2 which didn't got any signal at all. All these versions have in common that "Use Tuner Request" is somewhat broken, after enabling it, no channel works.

As I said, ProgDVB 6.61.1 works correctly beside the little problem when switching channels, but I will definately use it. I made the mistake of using WinTV yesterday and it crashed while recording a film.

I hope that the issues with newer versions of ProgDVB can be fixed, but I'm aware that I can't demand anything, especially as it would require lots of time and the right TV card. I read somewhere that the WinTV-Nova-HD-S2 and WinTV HVR-4000 are based on the same chipset/design if you are more familiar with that card, but I'm just sayin'.
