Audio set to [AC3], but no sound ...

Why do I have to change audio settings for (nearly) every channel from "language [AC3]" to "language" manually to get sound? ("language" stands for any language like, english, french, german etc.) Why is that setting on [AC3] by default (giving no sound)? changing to non-AC3 brings sound back.

Hmm ... I don't want to disturb you: with many channels I have several languages, among them "English", "German" AND "German [AC3]; default setting is to "German [AC3] – and I don't hear anything. I have to set manually to "German", then I have sound. I wonder that the default setting is "German [AC3]" and not just "German".

OK, as far as I can see, only German is affected – but many of the german programs. Some I changed manually, others are still set to "German [AC3]" ... What logs do you need; where can I find them? What do I have to do that you can see what's happening?

I'll have to look at it again on a different installation. So far many of the channels with german language have both "german" and "german [AC3]" – and I haveto set those manually from "german [AC3]" to "german" to have sound. But once done, sound is there ...
