5.15.7 crashes when watching channels with signal threshold

#1
When watching Ku channels which the signal level just pass/not pass the threshold of my DVB card, after some mosaic, the ProgDVB will crash...

I didn't try C band, but I think the program will crash too.

It's annoying because when raining, some channels will be in threshold of signal level, the application always crash.....

This can be tested easily for you that you can partially obscure your dishes............

Thanks for your quick response. Can ProgDVB be more robust that even filters crash, the ProgDVB still alive and even reset/restart the filter 2 seconds later?

okay.... It seems Windows Media Player always crash too if filters broke... Microsoft can't even resolve such kinds of issues...

Exactly this is the main reason for me, to still use my Nexus in plain HW mode.
It's dedicated HW decoder is much more robust against heavy stream errors.

Recordings loaded with errors should be reprocessed with PVAStrumento or similar tools.

My conclusion, for software decoding you must have perfect signal.

Thanks Juergen!

I have Nexus similar TT S2300, but I never used HW mode. Can HW mode output to computer screen? I think HW mode only work for external TV?

How about the picture quality of HW decoding?

Partly...
The HW TV out can only serve video equipment.
But in real HW mode, the HW decoder also sends video overlay to the graphics card.

I am using both ways here.
The big TV monitor is used mainly when I need the PC screen for other applications, or for great movies ;)
BTW, that's the main reason, to keep alive ProgDVB 4.75, last version that plays out files (well)...

The (PAL625) picture quality on the TV out is the best possible for the port(s) available, at least for really good analogue CRT screens. Black Trinitron rulez 8)
Of course it plays out interlaced, so perhaps it's not that good on modern flat panel displays, that would in any case convert to 60 Hz, at least, and normally scan progressive.

Means, never saw a better composite / CVBS signal. And I've tested the RGB on my previous version, Galaxis DVB-S rev. 1.3.
Bestest ever...
My word as a TV mechanic ;)
RGB or S-Video depends on J2 being available, of course. And for now, I don't like the idea of modding my Nexus, directly on the DSP.

On the PC screen, you don't get deinterlacing in plain HW mode, so it pretty much depends on the display (type) and mode used.
A flicker reduced CRT driven with at least 75 Hz should give acceptable results for normal 50i PAL material.
For watching sports, well, dunno, not my piece of cake...

NTSC 525 (60Hz i) may give different results over VGA. Don't have this over here to often.

It's easy, simply stop the SW mode device, start the HW mode one.
May then be necessary, to restart ProgDVB or to activate software scaling in device controls.

But this may even fail (to show picture on the PC screen), if using some PCI-e graphics devices. For such a case, there's a special driver available from technotrend.com, that still uses software decoding for the HW mode computer screen picture, but allows to use the HW audio / video out ports for your TV.
