No Signal/No Channels

#1
Hi guys,

i got a DVB-S card today that uses the DM1105 chipset. installed drivers on Vista x86 and put my dish on Hotbird. instaleld ProdDVB and the DM1105 modules and it seems to read the device fine. so then I set the LNB based on the settings i had on the tv decoder

however i cannot seem to get any signal on the PC. if i connect it to the tv decoder box, it works fine though. When doing a channel search Quality bar sometimes very momentarily goes to 100% and the Level bar going to 100% or less (this only happens momentarily though!), however no channels can be found.

of course, i forgot to mention that i'm a complete newbie so it may very well be something skipping from my side. however i tried to read the manuals and tried to follow them as best i could.

thanks for any help!

Ok it worked :D

seems like i needed the set top box to be switched on! i found it kinda surprising that i can watch a channel on the pc and a completely different channel on the set top box.

What kind of LNB do you use, (Universal) Single, Twin, Quad, or Quattro and multiswitch?
Or is it something completely different, like a single cable / band stacking solution, or perhaps some other than the default LOF(s) involved?

Do both tuners share the same LNB cable? If so, in what way / order?

Keep in mind, tuning to Hotbird (like any other modern European satellite system) needs two switching signals to be working, 13 / 18 Volts for polarisation and 22kHz tone off / on for band switching.
On one cable, each of that switching signals can just have one state at a time. And if, for example, hooking one tuner up to a loop out of the other, just one can win the fight for each switch control. Normally the loop through equipped tuner would have to be set to standby, to allow the other one to take over. If in doubt, check the manual for that device.

its on a single cable... cable first comes into the PC tuner, then goes out of the loop through into the set top box (KAON).

i seem to be having a small problem with getting signal on some transponders (perfectly fine on others though!)... could this be related perhaps?

EDIT: checked properly and it is. if i put set top box on the same transponder ProgDVB can read it fine. what i cannot udnerstand though is how even if i unplug the set top box and disconnect loop through from DVB-S PC tuner (making it effectly just a connection between the LNB and the PC Tuner, getting rid of the set top box) it just doesn't work. maybe its something related to the dish motor? dunno, i'm just a n00b in all this. so thanks for any guidance!

You MUST not try to control a motor from two devices, as this would cause complete logical confusion. Your dish will certainly move to the moon or elsewhere, instead of the bird you want.

For more than one tuner, you have to use a fixed dish and either multi user port LNBs or a multiswitch solution, or even separate dishes, plus separate cables anyway. Everything else would cause interference of controls.
A loop port involved would also partly change voltages and control signals amplitudes, even in stand by, by this adding one more big chance for trouble...
