Play recordings

#1
I am unable to play back long recorded files on ProgDVB.
"Long means about 70 mins. 40 min ones are OK.
They will play on, eg, Media Player Classic (and others).
The longer files cause a system lockup - need Ctrl-Alt-Del to get out.

ProgDVB 6.48.4Std (but earlier versions also had this problem).
XP Prof SP3 up to date
P4M 1.5GHz , 1GB, 40GB

Recorded using AF9015 device
Pinnacle 310c and EasyCap also work well

(Thanks for adding table of UK DVB-T frequencies!)

What format and file size do the ~ 70 min recordings have?
What file system are you using, FAT32 or NTFS?
What split file settings are you using?

70 minutes recordings resulting in a file of 1537 KB ~ 1,5 Megabytes ?
Can't believe this.

Automatic file splitting can be set in recording options.
For example, if using a FAT32 file system, each file can't be bigger than 4 GB. So very long recording would have to be split into files of less than 4GB automatically.
NTFS can store far bigger files, a split would only be necessary once a partition (or disk quota) ran out of space, to continue at another place.

BTW:
P4M 1.5GHz , 1GB, 40GB
Only a 40 GB hard disk, this has two or three side aspects:
- how much free disk space do you really have available?
- do you use time shift, either in RAM (means, XP might tend to try and expand it's swap file) or in a file (means, you need even more free space on the disk...)
- is it really fast enough, either for at least the recording (and occasional swap activities) or for recording plus time shift file...

You may want to go for a bigger or a second (big) hard disk.
Modern big hard disks are a lot faster than stone age 40 GB stuff.
Make sure, it uses fastest possible UDMA mode and the disk controller uses bus mastering without PCI bus parity check (in BIOS setup).
Even an external USB 2 drive may help a lot, if changing or adding an internal HDD is not an option.

Perhaps also think about adding more RAM, as this may reduce swap file use. This may be pretty important, if your graphics unit uses shared memory / turbo memory, by this reducing RAM available for Windows.

A 1500 MHz P4M, this is not a really strong CPU. Try to get at least some hardware support from your GPU for the codec used.
And disable all kinds of post processing there.

Sorry, I meant MB.
1hr20min - 1.46GB
53min - 867MB
1hr10min - 1.26GB

9.87GB free disk space

I'll get a bigger disk when I've got a proven system.
Please note that my problem is with playing recordings, not making them.
The recordings are fine and will play in MPC-HC, DVB Dream, TotalMedia 3, VLC - - -

The exact response varies a bit on ProgDVB depending on how the file is opened (File menu or list on Recorded panel). Usually the top corners of the display area get small white rectangles before the program crashes.

Try to get more details by starting ProgDVB with /debug (e.g. from command line or by use of a modified desktop link).

Also try to move the playback slider, to scrub ahead, past that minute 70, to find out if it's an absolute or relative limit.

Re: Play recordings

Thanks.

debug gives the message "ProgDVBEngine - Create filter error (Video decoder)"
2 recordings then play with audio only, the third has video and audio
Stopping gives the message "except - ProgDVBEngine::Playback_Play"

With normal starting, the program doesn't get as far as showing the slider button.
