DVB-C no channels found!

#1
Hello,
I have Elgato eyetv hybrid usb tv tuner - and I have cable connection from http://indigital.co.in/.
When I try to scan for digital channels using DVB-C QAM tuner in progDVB, I don't get any channels!
My settop box does not have any card in it, so I take it that all the channels are free, but still
progDVB is unable to find any channels.

Looking into the STB configuration I see that there is following:
64 QAM
330,00 MHz
6900 MSPS
S24

Why is progDVB not able to scan for any channels?

Again, I am using elgato eyetv hybrid usb tv tuner which has DVB-C/T/ATSC/Analog support.

Only if this really is nothing but an FTA device.
On some cable services, certified receivers used come with a fully integrated decoder system, that at least allows to watch a basic set of channels without a subscriber card inserted.

In ProgDVB, do you get good level and quality readings on the transponder mentioned?
Or on any other?

Hello,
I should atleast see free channels.
Transponder scan shows level 50% and quality 40%.
I have HSC-1171NA settop box from technotrend.
Scanning for channels does not find any channels.
I don't think they use built-in scrambler.
What could the problem be?

Is there any other software or plugin available to scan for channels?

Sorry, but "HSC-1171NA" does not read like a TechnoTrend receiver model.
Possibly Hyundai???
However, even google did not help.
And I can't find a working server for hyundai electronics, except of the german one, that does not know anything on receivers.
However, you should take a deep look into the receiver's manual, to find out, if it provides an integrated CA, or maybe can tune to DVB-C2 or anything else but plain DVB-C.

Anyway, even on a fully scrambled systems, the stations should be found on a scan, as long as the channel list is told to show those.
But the modulation used may be an issue, like DVB-C2, as mentioned before.

It's also possible, you had to change manufacturer settings for the device in ProgDVB, to be able to tune properly, or it's not supported (correctly) by now.
Did you try the original application THC, that's available for your eyeTV tuner on Windows?

Here's the closest manual to the settop box I have, http://www.indigital.co.in/pdf/manual.doc
It is manufactured by IMCL and make is of either technotrend or wistron.
It does say that it has embedded CAS.

In settings the STB has "NIT --- YES" - NIT is Network Information Table, could this be the problem?

As you said stations should be found even if they are scrambled , then why no stations (channels) are getting found?

Could it be that QAM tuner is defective (a hardware problem)?

I tried THC, but still no channels are getting displayed.

Maybe is it the frequency band and modulation i am inputting is wrong?

Can we do some sort of deep packet analysis to find out the frequencies of digital channels?
there's this software called dvbsnoop but it's only for linux, and I don't have tv tuner driver for linux.

by the way, the cable provider is DVB-C right http://www.indigital.co.in/ ?

Seems like I need TransEdit of DVBViewer for this NIT thing?

Update: I am running TransEdit but still I am not getting any channels detected.... any reason?
I can see analog tv but cannot see digital channels. I am getting analog and digital channels from same cable.

NIT is transported along with the audio and video streams on each transponder.
Means, if you can't tune properly, you can't read the NIT.
And that's one pretty good reason, to not get any scan results.
Obviously this is not a ProgDVB issue, as the manufacturer's original application also fails.
Bad tuner or antenna connection, or bad driver, that's what this would be about...

So an eventual base encryption does not matter, as you are supposed to be able to read NIT and scan properly even then, just unable to open any station.
If the doc linked basically matches your STB, that one would have "embedded Conditional Access System (CAS) Nagravision" and a card reader.
If the card was also needed to watch free stations, can be checked easily, by starting the STB without it.
Other stations being available or not may depend on your subscription details.

Anyway, as my extension cable is a tiny little bit to short, I am sorry to have to say, I can't test your cable network from over here...
