stable version wanted

#1
Hi,

I played around for several hours to get ProgDVB running, but it doesn't work very well.
I installed the last versions of the 4.x and the 5.x versions of the programm, but both did not work.
What I want: I want to get it run on one pc as unicast server and want to look the channels on another pc.

I got it working on the server, but I do not get any picture on the client.
Once I had one, but not for very long. The system often just disapears (the programm is closed) when I click on a channel, or when I want to apply the settings in the window where I can setup the unicast.

I tried it on 3 different PCs, but it doesn't work on any one of them.

Is there any realy stable version of the programm?
I don't need any frippery like skins or shiny buttons. I just want a programm that doesn't simply disapear, when pressing a ok button.

So could anyone help me to get the software running?

thank you
Helmut

Please change 'want' against 'would like to have'.
Or did you buy and pay for anything?

Did you try multicast or broadcast?

You do remember, the home version only supports one client at a time?

That's all from me on this issue now, as I'm not using the media server / client ATM.

Sorry Juergen, but when I wrote my post, I had more than 3 hours of installing, uninstalling, etc. of progdvb behind me and I was very disappointed.

I would be willing to pay for the programm, if it would not be so buggy.
I am searching for a stable programm and if it fits my needs, I will pay for it. That's not the point.

I did not try multicast or broadcast, for the versions I used do not support that. Allthough I had to switch to multicast temporarely, to set the correct network properties, for in unicast this fields are disabled.
I only need one client, but this client has to reach the server over the network. The problem is not, that I get no access to the server. I even get the channel list from the server. Sometimes I even can switch the channel
on the client an the server switches to the correct channel.
The problem is, I do not get any picture on the client. I even get no audio signal.

Once I had a picture on the client (don't ask how I got this working), but after the next system crash, I didn't have any picture any more.
This is realy frustrating.

Do you get EPG resp. Now / Next data on the client?
If yes, basic data transfer is working.

Perhaps try to record, check for file size growth.
This way you should be able to find out, if the streams are really reaching the client. Playback on some player may then tell you more.
If recording is working, you may have codec related trouble. Else, you don't receive (correctly) from the server.

On the PC that runs the server module, I get a picture and audio. I can record, so it works.
On the PC I run the client, sometimes it works, sometimes not.
But even when it works, it is not very stable. Sometimes, when I switch to another channel, the ProgDVB on the server disapears (the programm closes without any error message).

I red somewhere, that it depends on several points, which version of progdvb runs stable on different PCs.
Is this true? If yes, are there any recommandations how to find the right version?

Here I have different PCs. I tried a Dual Core with a NVidia GForce 8600Gt. Ther it runs most of the time, except the problem with the channel switch causing the server to get closed.
On my Notebook (FJ Amilo) I get no Picture, no Audio and the record doesn't do anything (even the EPG doesn't do anything), though the window of the device setup shows traffic.

Any hints for me, how I could it bring to work?

My final goal is to buy me a USB DVBS device and a new PC just for this to attach to my TV. I want to eliminate my other equipment (SAT receiver, DVD HD Recorder, DLINK DSM 320, Dolby Sourround, etc.) and exchange it by a PC, that does all that stuff.

For testing porposes I use my old Technisat SS2 PCI card.

The USB DVBS receiver should have a remote control and should be compatible with ProgDVB.
Any suggestions?

If ProgDVB Pro is more stable than the free version, I even would buy it. Money is not the problem. I just want a stable System.

Well, I can't talk about the Pro version, as I don't have it.
Nor would I need it here, due to Win98SE still being my default system.

However, you may - but not must - have some networking trouble, like a firewall interfering, some other application causing high traffic peaks or somehow blocking temporarily, even a partly bad connection may cause such. Not to talk about eventual WLAN issues...

If the media server had some general bugs, I am sure we would already have read about this quite a lot here.
Can't test here now, as my second system is not working these days.

@ all
Perhaps someone else can interfere, with some expreience in media server use ?

perhaps try to edit options.ini in modules folder. I think there is something buggy with enabling the inputbox to choose the network adapter on server side
