progdvb4.xx oldest bugs...

#1
Hi there,

I just would like to mention some of the most annoying bugs (to me) that have been present on most of the versions 4.xx of ProgDVB, and that are still not fixed today:

Channel list management:
- channel trees are randomously showing inconsistencies with channel list. Mainly, some SCPC channels cannot be expanded in the channel tree (no "+" symbol). Seems to be caused by a bad differenciation between channels with similar SID,NIT/TID.
- channel list properties are also inconsistent when the number of channel lists (satellites) is important. For example, the TV/Radio/Data filters are not well saved and can move back to unwanted status after a channel scan. This bug is likely to appear also after a manual channel list renaming through the channel list properties menu (=> data overwritten in channel tree file ??)

Wrong pid parsing on some channels:
- this is systematically true for all Canalsat channels on 19,2°E, where the Seca Ids are incompletely displayed (only one fake Seca Id displayed instead of 2, 3 or 4 on most channels). This may cause some Seca CAMs not to work correctly, as they don't find the correct id. This bug is also/still present on Progdvb5.xx.
- this was true till very recently for PMT Pids uncorrectly interpreted on SIC International on 16°E, as well as on the France Televisions mux on 5°W, 11620V sr20000. (all channels shown an incorrect Vpid=pmt=95, all other pids=0). At last, prog seems to have fixed this one, thanks ;)

All above mentioned bugs are very likely to be the main cause for the bad behaviour of progdvb on Vista, which seems to be far less tolerant to some bugs.

Some progress was made on the most recent ProgDVB5.xx versions, even if they still have a lot of other bugs. I did not yet test the latest release on Vista. Will do and send another bug report.

Hope Prog will work on this :)
Thanks in advance !

Confirmed.

@ Prog

This one in fact is from the stone age and still alive
I have two favourite lists (TV and Radio) plus four dynamic lists, one for each position (19.2E, 13°E, 28.2°E, 30°W).
This happens to all dynamic lists, approximately since around 4.26.

Had you informed in full detail on the first old board then, but many data had gotten lost there, as you will remember, several hundred postings by me alone, for example...

Search transponder, scan position, whatever you like, either show Data flag in channel list properties get lost, or Data and Radio flags.
Rebuild the whole database four or five times since then, due to channel list incompatibility, but no changes on this issue.
Nasty old bug...

Please send me full bag list over email. Some point interesting some not.
For example ProgDVB not use information about crypts and I am not like update this part.

You have mail.
For example ProgDVB not use information about crypts and I am not like update this part.
But this is really important for legal CI users, regardless of if using an SS1 or any other card with a CI, or a seperate device for this, which will be available from hauppauge one day AFAIK.

@Prog:

I can (try to) understand why you are not willing to update the encryption ID bug. However, I think that not fixing this kind of bug may have some other unwanted side effects, such as a loss of integrity in the channel.dat database or even unexpected crashes of ProgDVB. In other words: the more bugs will be fixed, the more reliable ProgDVB will be ;)

I also forgot to mention one bug on ProgDVB4.xx (this one appeared a few months ago):
Captions are not anymore displayed on some Hotbird frequencies after a full scan. However, they are well displayed after a single transponder scan. This bug is present mainly with frequencies 11137H,11179H,11200V,11296H.

to Juergen: I wait your ideas about channel list in my email.

to deejay-d: I am not have problem with scanner on HB. What ProgDVB version? Is it all channels without names or only part?

#8
@Prog:
on each of the previously mentioned transponders, it does not concern all channels. I started noticing this bug a few months ago (don't remember the date precisely) and it is still present on current version 4.88.9. This bug only concerns TV channels only, not radios nor data. Each time, the missing caption is replaced by #1, #2, #3, etc...
For example on frequency 11200V, I have 16 TV channels showing #1 to #16. The only few channels that have kept their name are: .Lolita, All Sex, EBC.1, EROS LIVE, Hot Point, Hot Week.
On 11137H, 4 channel captions are missing.
On 11179H, 7 channel captions are missing.
On 11296V, 16 channel captions are missing.

@ Prog

I told you...

All four dvnamic lists were set to show all stations, TV, Radio and others.
Then I rescanned just one transponder on Astra 19.2°E.
After this, all properties of the dynamic lists have changed:
19.2°E --> TV + Radio, others are off
13°E --> TV only, Radio and others are off
28.x°E --> TV + Radio, others are off
30°W --> TV only, Radio and others are off
This now is the state of the channels folder I've mailed you.
Set back to show all, scan a transponder you can get, look into properties again.

This also happens on any other transponder or satellite here.
So, any scan changes the flags.

I don't have any idea on how this happens, technically, as I am not a programmer or data base expert.

BTW
Something MUST be done about the board software immediately.
The Chinese (and others) are flooding our member list again, for search engine ranking manipulation.
Google and Yahoo are changing their crawler IPs frequently, so I can't always keep them out.
And you know, I will be on vacation and offline for more than a week soon.

Regards

Juergen

deejay-d: I am tested again. All channels on 11200,11137,11179 and 11296 have captions. What DVB card you have?

Juergen: What version? No problem in 5.x ...

#11
This test was on 4.84.1w9x, but bug also occurs on all other 4.x versions I have tested since after ~ 4.26, w9x and standard.
And I've had that on one 5.x version before, but I don't remember details.
maybe it's channel database was from a 4.x version then.

Will proceed testing on 5.12.9 later this evening, with a fresh data base.
4.88.9 tests will also follow.

I have just tested the hotbird caption issue with 2 completely different hardware platforms using progDVB 4.88.9:

- with a TT S2-3200 on Vista or XP: bug is present.
- with a Hauppauge Nexus (SS1) on W2K: bug is present.

In both cases, the same channels are affected. There is no "random effect".

I remind again that this bug appears only after a FULL satellite scan. With a single transponder scan, it is okay.

Yes, I am test "FULL satellite scan" on 3650 (USB version of 3200).
I think you have problem with signal level.
Also you can try set some delay in
settings->options->[last page]->scanner

Prog,

I have a perfect reception of Hotbird (all Txp at 95%) and these Txp are perfectly scanned with other DVB softs.
I don't see what option you are talking about. It doesn't exist on ProgDVB4.88.9.
