Channels stop working

#1
Hi,

I have ProgDVB 5.13.01 installed and I just a while ago succesfully found some channels to watch (which is nice). However I only manage to watch those channels randomly when I start ProgDVB and click the channel name on the list on the left.

I assume the 2 indicators on bottom are link quality and signal strenght (or something like that), and these usually are shown empty when I click a channel name. Randomly some times these 2 values are shown almost full and when this happens, I get the picture and sound as well. When not, I only get program information below the black screen.

Anyone knows what is the problem here?

OS: XP Home
Card: TT budget C-1500

Do you get L & Q values on a manual transponder scan?
If so, how are those?
Even on cable, it's possible, to get very bad signal on some or all transponders, if something is wrong with wiring, sockets, outlets, whatsoever.

Also possible, your transponder list is not suiting your local situation perfectly, like due to frequencies being slightly off.
If so, you may have to edit your transponder list.

A manual scan on a transponder, detuning a bit into any direction, to find a maximum or hold range center, might give you some hints.

Thanks. I already tried with a better antenna cable and I got signals again. However I signal L and Q change a lot (left side one being at 50-60% and right side one nearly 100%). Tomorrow I'm going to get some new cable and try again.

When scanning for programs, results may vary. I mean I can't find all the programs every time I run the scan.

OK, cabling is the main issue for now.
Normally, on cable the values should almost stand still...

However, if being close to some limit in any way, even tiny differences may matter, like if some frequencies aren't really precise.
So, after having checked cables, try the hold range method on any suboptimal transponders, to perhaps customize and optimize your transponder list. If succeeding, make a safety copy for later, to not have to rework after a version update...

Got a better cable now but after installing it ProgDVB gives following errors at star: Device Not Started ! (LME DVB DEVICES) !? After re-installing, same thing.

EDIT: Anyway it seems to work anyway again even with error on start. However tt bothers me, that I have to boot the program if I want to change the channel because they just don't show if I change it in the program.

#6
Try to analyse strictly logical, and keep things separate, that don't belong together technically.

If you are on a station and change to another one on the same transponder, what exactly happens? Does the level drop, or 'just' audio and video won't come, or does the device get unavailable, giving error message, or what else? What if you go back to the first channel again, or what if you don't change but reactivate the same channel?

If device busy is reported on ProgDVB start, does this happen every time, or just once after system boot, or only from the second time on, after system boot?

is there any autostart active, from an original DVB application?

Details rule...

Levels drop, audio and video disappears. No error messages, they show up only when I start the program ("Device not started !" - message).
Juergen wrote: What if you go back to the first channel again, or what if you don't change but reactivate the same channel?
Reactivating the channel results in lost of signal levels, as well as changing channel (and also when going back). Sometimes closing and re-starting ProgDVB helps to get signal again. Funny thing is, that I can watch one channel as long as I want (it seems), but when I change, signal is lost.
Juergen wrote: If device busy is reported on ProgDVB start, does this happen every time, or just once after system boot, or only from the second time on, after system boot?
There are no such errors which hint that device is busy. Only "Device not started !" - message when I start ProgDVB, but it does not seem to mean that device is completely unusable.
Juergen wrote: is there any autostart active, from an original DVB application?
No, none I could find and identify of task manager -> processes.

This is weird. Really weird....

Seems, you are losing tuner contols once switching a channel.
And then it seems, the device is not being released after closing ProgDVB.

Never heard of anything like this, on any other device than a degraded SS1 / Nexus ever before. Those quite often have trouble with the onboard voltage converter, due to a bad capacitor 330µF/25V (which should be bigger and 35 V anyway).
But a cable tuner does not require LNB supply, so I won't await any similar trouble. Nor are they known for requiring firmware reloads occasionally.

So, from my point of view, there are just three possible causes
- ProgDVB bug
- driver trouble
- hardware trouble

However, perhaps try to stop and restart the device once, instead of closing ProgDVB. Perhaps this may tell us more.
BTW, TT C-1500 and 'LME device', can this be correct? Should it not show up as a TT budget device?

Or perhaps uninstall hardware and driver and try another slot.

Ok I'll try to install it to another PCI slot. Error by different hw name is because program doesn't identify my card as on in the list (with it's name) exactly, but rather as other devices, so I pick the one ProgDVB Approves (and shows channesls) currently that being (BDA) Technotrend BDA/DVB-C Tuner (which is correct but as default ProgDVB chooses wrong card I presume).

#10
Perhaps (stop all active devices and close ProgDVB and) remove all unnecessary devices, that don't fit to your hardware anyway.

You mean in my computer -> properties -> device manager -> TT Budger C-1500 -> Properties -> "Do not use this device" and after it "Use this device" ? If so, didn't work.

The first one was my bad. I found out that some other devices in devices list were kind of 'working' with my TT card, but I got it back and the error disappeared. However the main problem (losing signal) exists still.

I also changed the card to another pci slot, but that did not change anything.

From task manager or what do you mean? I'm not quite sure what all the things there do, since there is quite a lot of them. Also duplicates like scvhost.exe...

No, inside of ProgDVB, device list.

The networking device is to be found as a network card in your device manager.

Removing other devices from ProgDVB means, to look through the 'Modules' subfolder, remove device files for other DVB hardware from there, with ProgDVB not active during this action, of course.
You only need TT related DLLs there, the TT device for your card, modules for TXT, EPG and scheduler and related files.
If in doubt, check all properties of a file, normally you'll find it's purpose this way.
And of course there's no must to delete, just move to some other location to check, so you can go back at any time.

Disabling device and re-activating it seems to have some effect. I can get one channel working of my list (still not everyone, it seems to be quite 'random' from few specific channels that I can see) after re-actication of device.

Temporarily removing other DLL:s than TT:s from modules folder has no effect.

#14
That's bad.

Make sure, your card and computer case inside is not overheating.

How about the original application from TT, does it have any similar trouble? Or in case any other?
If so, supposingly that hardware's done...
