Hi!
I use the latest version of ProgDVB (4.80.1) and the latest version of NVidia's PureVideo codec and an old Hauppauge Nova-S. I built the filter graph myself.
The problem is that the border setting in Settings -> Audio and Video are ignored. No matter what values I use for Left/Right and Top/Bottom, the picture remains unzoomed. This is quite annoying, because many TV stations don't use the full resolution.
For example, the german station TERRANOVA has a black frame around the picture. On other TV stations you can see some kind of digital timecode at the top of the picture. That's pretty annoying.
When I use other codecs than PureVideo, the border settings work perfectly, but I don't want to use them because IMHO NVidia's codec has the best decoding quality and best deinterlacing with VMR9.
I tried some other DVB software, e.g. AltDVB zooms the picture correctly, so it is generally possible. But I don't want to use another software than ProgDVB, it works like a charm for me and is easy in usage.
Is it possible to fix that issue?

Hello,
I have the same problem. I am using ProgDVB 5.14.09 and latest version of NVidia decoder (PureVideo). When using other decoder than Elecard Mpeg2 "Left/Right" and "Top/Bottom" borders function is ignored. This function only works with Elecard, it doesn't work with other decoders. There is no zooming or border cutting function in decoder properties. It's very important to me because I see various static and variable lines around video area, that are very annoying (WHERE DO THEY COME FROM?):

You may ask why don't I use Elecard? Because with it hardware deinterlacing doesn't work (maybe video card drivers fault, but I am using latest drivers), I get the best video quality and frame rates with NVidia decoder using hardware deinterlacing.

The distorted area at the bottom results from content taken from analogue video tape, like VHS, BetaCam, 8mm/Hi8, open reel MAZ and alike.
Comes from video head switching and the time base errors caused by this and mechanical back tension variation.
In fact, on standard CRT based TVs, that part of the signal is meant to be invisible, as being located in the overscan area.
Quite similar to this, you may occasionally find some white dots and lines on the top, resulting from TCR systems on professional analogue video tape, or from some AR signalling, for example.
Plus, by definition there's a half line on each end, top and bottom, of which the other half should be (but not always is) black.
So, cropping the digital picture by some pixels basically is a good idea, specially when used on comuter screens or flat panel TVs.
Cropping must, due to elementary components of MPEG2, be done with a multidude of eight.
As another example, my vintage but professional video capture / editing / playout device FAST AVMaster provides hardware based cropping, to remove all those annoying remainings, that don't belong to the previously defined limited visible area.
Of course, such cropping had to be supported by the codec, and the necessary addressing code has to be known, to be available for ProgDVB or any other DVB software to control.
Such knowledge may be hard to get, specially for all codecs, that are not based on open source.
Elecard is commercial, Prog sells some licenses for them, so this may be their good reason, to support him with necessary details.

I am now thinking that we asked Prog to put back on the site the old versions but those versions have a oficial Elcard codec?
#6
No, free versions of ProgDVB only come with a time limited demo version of the Elecard codec.

Even the first 4.1x or 4.2x versions? Those do not have the "dial pad" in the upper right corner. Are those demo?
Re: .
#8I have tried that, it doesn't change anything... Also tried different NVidia decoder settings - no luck. Just as I thought it is a compatibility issue between decoder and ProgDVB...Prog wrote:You can try change video render.

P.S. thanks Juergen for your detail information.

Once again, this may also be an issue of what a codec is originally made for.
Most are made for DVD, and normally you would not need to crop there.
But some, like one from Cyberlink, if i remember well, are made specially for digital TV.
