Depends.

I don't yet know, which way your remote is working.

Some do contact to the hardware directly, by this requiring support by the dedicated device file. An example is the Philips SAA7146 based concept of the SS1 / Premium cards. An indice for a proprietary system like this would be, no trace of the remote found in Windows system control.

Other remotes, mainly of several more modern concepts, work as HID (human interface device), means keyboard or mouse emulation, to be found in system control --> device manager as such.

Also possible, a remote communicates like a serial device, over COM or USB port, even virtual. That's the kind of device, girder / lirc would make available.

Theoretically there are several other chances, to build a remote system, as it may use 27MHz, 35MHz, 443MHz or 2.4GHz RF, or Bluetooth, or whatever else technology, in each case either using Windows and drivers to connect to the device, or contacting the device over a remote receiver connected to the hardware directly, seen from the point of view of the logics behind. This does not really depend on the location of a connector or a device being integrated with some casing.

So, first of all, after the installation of drivers and in case original application, look into your system control to get an idea.
If there's a new HID in it for this, there's a big chance, the remote gets handled as a keyboard. And ProgDVB controls would have to be configured for keyboard use, not for remote control.
