Some questions about progdvb/dvbsbridge

#1
Hello,

i use Windows Vista Mediacenter, but the TV integration is not good - so i want to use with dvbsbridge dvb-c in Vista Mediacenter.

Ok, here some questions:

1) I have a Windows 2008 x64 Server with Exchange 2007. Can i install on this Server ProgDVB and use the TV Cards in my 3 Vista Mediacenters over Network?

2) On my Masterserver are 5 Extenders (Xbox 360 and Linksys) connected, can i watch TV on my Extenders?

3) can i show on one tv card more channels at the same time (some other programms has this feature, mediaportal called this "channel hoping").

4) can i use pay tv in mediacenter and is it possible to decrypt more channels at the same time and watch them on different extenders?

Thanks a lot for your help :).

2) partly depends on home or pro version of the media server (or perhaps something suitable in between).

3) as long as it's on the same transponder, either by use of a PIP function, or perhaps by some external stream demuxing. Limited to software filtering devices, of course. So, impossible on an SS1/Premium card, for example

4) PayTV - basically yes, if you have CI (plus a device on wich ProgDVB supports the CI), suitable CAM and subscriber card
more than one at a time - this would be illegal, as you only pay for one at a time (for one sub card)

p.s.
1) no idea, no such server here

2) ok, understand i right - if i have the pro edition, i can use client/server? is it possible to watch tv in vista mediacenter, if the client has no tv card - but is connected to an progdvb server?

3) ok, is it possible to watch 2 different channels on 2 different mediacenter extenders (like xbox 360), but on the same transponders - i use technotrend c-1501?

4) ok, pay tv on vista mediacenter and vista extenders are possible, right? if 1 cam/ci can decrypt only one tv channel - is it possible to map some channels to one card with ci - i mean, what happens if i watch tv (unencrypted) mediacenter take the card with the ci, than i want to watch a channel that is encrypted on my second card without cam/ci?

thanks for your help.

Try to not mix things up completely...

ad 2)
The media server comes in a free version, but there also is a commercial one with more options.
That's not depending on ProgDVB Pro.
No idea on Vista, nor on it's mediacenter, but streams from a media server can be read with streaming clients, like the one inside of Prog'DVB or VLC, for example. On client side, you don't use a DVB device then, of course, just the client, stand alone or as a component of a player software.. You're receiving streams from a server, not from the hardware directly.

Theoretically, yes. But DVB software like ProgDVB is not meant to be used this way.
Technically, all non-hardware-filtering cards are providing the whole transponder multiplex, the stream filtering is done by software. So it's possible, to lead any stream components to any suitable target you have, regardless if it's a viever software (codec, renderer), a streaming server, a file writer routine (that's either timeshifting or recording), some suitable HW decoder (like the vintage Hollywood device, a VGA card's internal decoder stage or whatever else may be useful.
The problem is, HOW to do this.
Many networking connections are to slow, to let through a full transponder mix. Else stream filtering could be done on client side alone.
Decrypting can only be done to already separated streams, not to a full transponder mux. So, as you won't find a CI you could stream to, you can't decrypt legally on cliebnt side.

Once again, don't try to force me to try the V pain-in-the-back-stuff...
The CI of a device can only use the transponder it's tuned to. It's output signal is connected back to the card, to control the CSA hardware descrambler. It's not available for other purposes.
A second card would not benefit from this in any legal way.

Streaming or use of a second DVB device, that's two completely different subjects.

However, we've gotten pretty Off Topic with this, and I am not a steaming specialist.
So this is it for now, for my part.

If you still need to know more, think about starting to read at dvbn.happysat.org, all through the English sections on suitable subjects.
