Problems with letterboxing mode 16:10

#1
Okey, I have noticed some strange behavior with the 16:10 letter boxing option in audio and video settings menu. With 4:3 content it works just fine (although I do have a suggestion for it), but when watching 16:9 content it crops a bit from the top and bottom of the picture, even when it shouldn't.

Setting the letter box mode to none fixes the 16:9 video, but I wouldn't want to change it all the time.

So, if this is possible, could you make the 16:10 mode work a bit different? I got two suggestions for it:
1. If the source video has display aspect ratio of 16:9 - > don't crop at all
2. If the source video has display aspect ratio of 4:3 - > crop 80 pixels from the top and 56 from the bottom. (with 720x576 source resolution)

I'm asking for this option because two biggest tv channels in Finland still use subtitles burned into the picture, and if you crop equal amount of pixels from the top and bottom of the screen, some of the subtitles cannot be seen, but if you crop 80 / 56 px, the subtitles will show completely. Also if they are broadcasting letter boxed 16:9 video, you wont lose any important video data with this crop, only black bars.

Edit: Actually, it would be best if we could have some sort of custom cropping option, where the user could insert own values to for the cropping because I'm not 100% sure that these are the correct numbers to make it perfect.

With these changes ProgDVB would be an ideal software for me, and thanks for the great work you have done so far. :)

Showing 16:9 uncropped on a 16:10 screen would lead to eggheads...
A 16:10 screen is not wide enough (or to high), so either black borders on the sides, or cropping up and down, or squeezing...
Exactly the same issue when using a medium size screen in 5:4 for 4:3 pictures, like on many 17" to 19" CRTs and TFTs.
F.e. 1280x1024 means 5:4, not 4:3.
1600x1200 is 4:3, but if the screen itself was not, that won't have helped a lot.
Windows 'thinks' in square pixels normally...

(Symmetrical) border settings are available from Settings--> Audio and video --> DirectShow.
Results mary depend on the renderer in use, perhaps also the codec / graph.

More customizing may be a good idea, but it's not up to me to decide.

And I had to hope, things would not collide with the pretty simple hardware controls for SS1 / premium cards in HW mode then :?
