Just theory, as I don't possess any of your hardware...
..but you should check the properties of your codec(s).
F.e., perhaps it tries to use overlay or some hardware accelleration (only over that renderer, as it seems). And on some VGA cards, there's no overlay on secondary monitors, hardware limitation.
For some similar issues on my old machine, I've had my system manipulated, by default just inverting the secondary and primary port in driver controls. Did not mean a thing, if just one connected, but if both ports loaded, the secondary used overlay. Radeon 7200/VE, true dual head, but just one overlay...
Just went back to default recently, as I don't need the Radeon TV out anymore, plus, all Linux LiveCDs I have did not find a working x-server if secondary port used alone.
Well, this all won't lead to a solution for you directly, but perhaps it may let you get an impression, what to look for and after...
