Because 4.xx is the "final" version afaik

And 5.xx is an beta maybe give the 4.xx an try instead and sometimes an
buggy driver can cause crashes (i had an twinhan vp-1027 it was the worst hardware i could get...) try to deactivate all modules and plugins even try
to update the drivers if possible what card are you using ?

Hope you solve it when everything works as it should progdvb is really an
awesome program...

I like ProgDVB too, but those errors give it a bad rating. I am using Skystar2. I need the plugins to be installed, so I can't disable them. Where can I download the latest drivers? The only sotfware that I can use is AltDVB, but it is way to complicated, not user friendly, although I am using it temporary. I tried some of the 4.xx. version too, but not good. Which version is everybody using?

What i mostly meant was if you have plugins like "diseqc" try atleast to point the dish at one satellite ex. astra 19.2e and try to disable the plugins and see if progdvb gets more stable didnt say that you should disable them for all the future but lets say if you disable all and it then works and slowly add the plugins each by each and try to find out wich one is causing the problems etc or:

Check theese:

Goto:

http://www.technisat.com/?site=service/ ... uktID=1281

Confirm that you have the latest drivers...

And check/download KB896626

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... layLang=en

Its an known issue with XPSP2 and Microsoft Net "psisdecd.dll"
it was causing mine sudden crashes before anyhow maybe your
crashes has to do with it ?

Because ProgDVB rely on MS Net...

Maybe SiLencer or Juergen can give you more advices...

Don't mix up five (or even six, including the user?) types of problem sources:

- ProgDVB itself, as long as you're trying a test version

- ressource relevant settings, like those for timeshift (location and size), record path(s), CRC check for SI packets and it's priority (try with 'Low'), other device files in the modules subfolder (that aren't used)

- third party software, like the driver, plugins, language files, codecs, and including your OS and it's patches, DirectX, sound card type and driver, AntiVirus and firewall software and settings, other background processes

- possible interrupt sharing and it's handling, your other hardware, even including main board, RAM and PSU, all relevant settings

- signal strength and quality from your dish, as stream errors may interfere with your codec, or even the DVB application itself (and perhaps plugins) when system streams get corrupted

To specify, the best to do is, to compare with other DVB applications intensively, on every aspect. And keep in mind, to use identical settings for all, if any possible, like codec and renderer related ones.
Even most plugins have setings, that may cause some trouble by default.

As an example, you've mentioned 'horizontal lines become available with no reason'. Guess you're talking about interlace effects on your screen, fork like effects on fast moving picture content. That's not ProgDVB related, but a basic issue of watching TV on a computer screen, that does not show interlaced content as such, as it scans progressive. There for, you need some kind of a de-interlacing routine. But this is part of your codec's settings and properties, and it also depends on your VGA card driver and overlay settings, your screen's frame rate and working principle (CRT or LCD), and in the second case, even on it's settings.

First to compare with intensively, should be the original application, that came with your card, or an updated version of it.

Third party DVB software generally is meant for someway experienced users mainly, that want a different user interface, extended functionality and alike, but normally it can't cure any trouble on your machine, or bypass the law of physics...

The non free versions of ProgDVB use (almost) the same machinery, but they come with some extra features, that have to be paid for, like the full version of Elecard.
So, get a free version running fine, before even tually thinking of buying anything.

It's a hobby, that may take quite some time to test and try out, read, learn and understand, and then (hopefully) succeed.

I tried different ProgDVB's and they are working great. The freezes are gone and even the newest test version is awesome. Could you tell me how to add some video codecs, because the "default" option is not working. Whenever I try to pick another codec from the menu I get an error that the codec couldn't be found. I think that Some softwares need to be installed, so ProgDVB will detect them.
I want free codecs. I've seen a few of them that are shareware.

"error that the codec couldn't be found" this message mean codec ( ax format ) not registered

you must register codecs ( being part of Direct show ) to use them directly or creating ur own graph , second one is best way . I don't why the original filters don't work smooth !!! it's not a big problem u can create ur own ...

Maybe you can use FFDShow or Cyperlink ( PowerDVD ) and the best of all is nVidia decoder after the test 8)

sterbikdavid wrote:What ever I do, I get the same error. The most popular codecs (Nvidia, Cyberlink, etc.) won't work either.
u must install powerdvd for cyperlink , nVidia decoder ( nVidia purevideo ) for nVidia filter >>> and
you must register codecs

In fact to today, under XP SP2 and TT 2300S (soft mode) tested with all other versions, I still use 4.85 and 5.09 with only Elecard codecs registered, all next others give me crashs with new engine, no scan updates, no EPG, no USALS ....
I cant install fresh XP for only ProDVB, where is the solution ?? I have same problems using Vista 32 Ultimate.
I have also bought (by mistake) the Elecard version who not support my card.
Just bought the USB 2.0 TT 3650 CI (drivers and original soft not really finished : many BSOD when unconnecting USB and power) the versions used for the 2300 are mostly working (no DVB S2 and no CI) with the USB-BDA receiver.
The Elecard EditiApplication défaillante progdvbnet.exe, version 5.10.2.0, module défaillant progdvbengine.dll, version 0.0.0.0, adresse de défaillance 0x000049b2.on seem have the same problem that the standard version with all hardware.

Tested also with 5.10.2, mostly working (without USALS) the first time after install but crashing for all the following ProgDVB start in the engine dll:

Code: Select all

Application défaillante progdvbnet.exe, version 5.10.2.0, module défaillant progdvbengine.dll, version 0.0.0.0, adresse de défaillance 0x000049b2.

I installed the latest version of Cyberlink PowerDVD a long time ago and ProgDVB didn't detected it. I thought if I install the correct program, ProgDVB will detect the codec automatically.
How do you mean "register codec".

#14
Look into the file 'register.bat'
That's for the elecard demo version, that's included, but it shows how to handle others.

BTW, codecs (.ax files) often can also be 'borrowed' form existing software, by copying into the filters folder. Versions are important, registrations may be too stupid, if another is in that folder, with the same name.
But as the display name in Directshow does not have to be the file name, this may as well make you select the wrong one. So perhaps remove all unnecessary codecs from that folder.
