AVerTV DVB-S Hybrid+FM tuning problems

#1
Hi,

I've just installed this card (A700 http://www.avermedia.com/AVerTV/Product ... spx?Id=346) on a new installation of Vista Ultimate x64 (English) and can't get it to work with ProgDVB as I can't get past tuning.

I am running the latest drivers and AVerTV application from avermedia (3.5.64.65 and 6.0.11). The dish is pointed at Optus C1 with a single LNB (LOF1 = 10700MHz, no switch) and can scan, tune and receive unencrypted / FTA channels using AVerTV. I initially had to manually add two transponders (12305 H and 12438 H) but after doing this, and scanning, all channels on these transponders appeared.

I have tried ProgDVB 4.89.4 and 5.13.4 (no plugins) as well as FastSatFinder and I have not been able to get this card to tune. I have tried both the BDA device (4.x & 5.x) and the A700 device (4.x only), both before and after using AVerTV.

If the A700 device is enabled then no signal is detected during a transponder or channel scan. The transponder scan window seems to freeze for a short time when scanning and the channel scan progresses but finds nothing. Also, after enabling the A700 device AVerTV cannot tune or decode channels, regardless of whether I close ProgDVB before opening AVerTV. AVerTV works again after the computer is restarted.

If the BDA device is enabled then signal strength stays at 20% and a channel scan doesn't seem to progress at all. At least AVerTV works again after ProgDVB is closed.

ProgDVB scans my DVB-T card (Hauppauge Nova-T 500) okay so I suspect it is a problem with the device and not just a quirky Vista issue (I've tried running as administrator and in XP compatibility mode too, but neither helped).

So, I'm wondering whether it is possible to get this card to work with one of the released builds of ProgDVB / A700 device. I found the following post at the old forum (http://forum.progdvb.com/old/showflat.p ... umber=5293) which suggests there has been a hardware revision which may be incompatible with the A700 device. My PCB is low profile as well and marked with A700-B. I couldn't find the A700 driver in the 5.x build, is it no longer supported?

I have a programming background and I don't mind helping out debugging. Where should I start? I tried running with /debug but nothing ended up in the channel scanner log, even though it was ticked. I presume that AVerA700.device in the Modules directory is a Windows DLL: are there other builds or possibly source code available for this?

Failing that, any recommendation for other compatible hardware? I'm eventually looking to use DVBSBridge into MCE, so I'm after something that is simple but has no problems tuning.

Thanks,

Shanon

Well, good news!

After re-installing and setting up my LNB settings again I've been able to tune all channels. :) Maybe this was just a user error inputting them and I didn't spend enough time looking at LNB setup as I was troubleshooting.

This is with the BDA device I should mention. If everything works okay I probably won't even bother with the A700 device. If I do get around to testing again with the A700 device I'll post the results.

Thanks,

Shanon

I am using the same card with Progdvb 5, with similar trouble :

Doing the normal automatic scan gives me just a few channels and Diseqc does not seem to work, i.e. even with correct settings for Astra and Hotbird, it is tracking on Hotbird all the time.
Doing each transponder separately, gives me all channels; at least this solved my problem, but a bit cumbersome.
This is what seems to happen :

- select a transponder
- lock
- scan
Results are ok.

- select the next transponder
- lock : signal strength goes to zero
- lock again : signal as expected
- scan

Results are ok.

This happens for most of the transponders and I guess this is the reason, why the automatic scan fails.
